Rick Ackerman was in the last class to graduate from the old Skagway School in 1985.  After graduation, he entered the military and served 21 years as a Military Police Officer. After retiring from the Army he and his family moved back to Skagway, where he worked as a police officer and DARE instructor for 5 years. He has an Associate in Applied Science. He worked a short stent in construction before being hired by the Skagway School District as the maintenance technician.
