SCHOOL BOARD GOALS

2013-2014

 

Vision

In partnership with educators, family and community; Skagway School District will provide rich and rigorous academics that ensure all students will succeed in their education and work.

Mission

Skagway School District will:

·      Through professional and curriculum development provide a rich and rigorous education for every student.

·      Use proactive and effective communication with parents, community and educators.

·      Provide the tools for each student to succeed to the best of his/her ability.

Goal One:  The Skagway School District will promote effective communication and partnerships with parents, local businesses, government and other agencies.

Specifically Utilizing A Multi Pronged Plan Including-

1.     Facebook page.

                                               i.     Measured by completion of and posting of Skagway School Facebook Page.

                                             ii.     Time of completion March 12, 2013.

2.     Skagway School District will sponsor:

a.     School board member sponsored early childhood literacy activity 2 times a year.

                                               i.     Measured by attendance sheet from the event.

                                             ii.     Time of completion of schedule August 30, 2013, for fall event and spring event.

b.     Annual community barbeque with school orientation for new families.

                                               i.     Measured by attendance sheet from the event.

                                             ii.     Time of completion during pre-school in-service.

3.     The Skagway School Board will establish a subcommittee to focus on communications with public entities.

a.     The Skagway School Board will send a representative to one Skagway Assembly meeting per month to update the Assembly on school activities and answer any questions they may have.

                                               i.     Measured by minutes of board meeting with report of previous Assembly meeting.

                                             ii.     Time of completion March 12, 2013.

b.     The Skagway School Board will appoint a subcommittee to develop and maintain relationships with local organizations and businesses.

                                               i.     Measured by minutes of board meeting with report from subcommittee.

                                             ii.     Time of completion March 12, 2013.

Goal Two:  To actively recruit, retain, and develop highly competent, caring, and student focused staff by putting into practice state of the art technology that provides students and staff with full working and learning capability.

1.              Hire a highly trained and qualified teacher experienced in Vocational Technology and Computer Technology, Foreign Language or Social Studies.

a.     Measured by certification of hired teacher.

b.     Time of completion May 17, 2013.

2.              Hire a highly trained and qualified teacher experienced in Sciences and Computer Technology, Foreign Language or Social Studies.

a.     Measured by certification of hired teacher.

b.     Time of completion May 17, 2013.

Goal Three:  The Skagway School District will set and meet high expectations for academic achievement, teaching standards, administration accomplishments, and board performance. 

 1.              The Skagway School District will develop and adopt a new evaluation tool for the Superintendent position that contains measurable objectives, and input from the staff and community. 

a.     Measured by completion of Superintendent evaluation.

b.     Time of completion May 1, 2013.

2.              The Skagway School District will adopt a research-based system to evaluate teacher performance and promote professional growth. 

a.     Measured by completion of teacher evaluation.

b.     Time of starting process July 15, 2013.  Time of completion December 15, 2013.

3.              The Skagway School District will commission a study to measure student success after graduation. 

a.     Measured by completion of Graduate Data Survey.

b.     Time of completion May 15, 2013.

4.              The Skagway School District will provide professional guidance counselor services.

a.     Measured by hiring a counselor.

b.     Time of completion August 1, 2013.
